Brand Identity/Typography

Blurtit’s logo has a straightforward design that beautifully compliments the idea behind the site’s purpose. It seems to be using just about three different types of fonts, and from the looks of it, two of them are modified. The blue box encasing the word “it” is the pivotal point within the logo design that backs the service offered by this website.

Elements of Design

The site has all of its elements separated into sections. The main content on the site is the unanswered questions, they take up just about 35% of the space on the home page. The design seems to have been put together using a grid. The navigation menu is extremely accessible and gives you a brief description of the content you’re going to see on every corresponding page. When you scroll over the latest questions, it automatically gives you the option to answer it or report it.

Entering and posting your questions to the community is by far one of the easiest features to work with on the site. The area where you type your questions is designed to look like as though you’re saying something.

Once you enter your question and you press the ‘go’ button your question is posted in an instant. You’re then taken to another page where it gives you a few options like registering, be interested in other similar questions, or search your corresponding category.

Overview

Overall, the Blurit.com is a nicely designed site with effective and organized use of whitespace. In my opinion its design rivals and is easier to navigate through when compared to Yahoo Answers (which operates under similar concepts). The Yahoo Answers pages seem too cluttered, and one of the most important elements of the site (where you search for questions) lacks visibility. Yahoo Answers has a large display of featured questions on the front page unlike Blurtit, however, Blurtit likes to circulate recently asked questions in more than one area of the site.

Sony’s Direction

It strangely doesn’t feel like a gaming ad, but it’s clear the direction Sony is taking with these ads; they want to attract individuals in their mid 20’s to early 30’s. Some of the the ads display more mature content, while others are exclusively for the younger crowd.

Site Features

This site utilized JQuery technology for its simple yet effective slider that showcases recent projects. The menu and titles are displayed in Rockwell font and the main content seems to be in arial.

The actual name of this site goes hand in hand with the overall layout. The main layout has thousands of squares that connect together to create the background.

The whole site revolves around their services and process sections. They are the center of it all. The design is crisp, clean, and well presented and almost every image uses a hover effect. The code can either be found in the CSS or HTML.

One of the most noticeable features would have to be the JQuery slider since you can find one on three of the sites pages. All in all, the site was well thought out, showcases great use of creativity, and hits a home run out of the ball park in my opinion when it comes to navigation.

Nyxen.net is the interactive portfolio of Benjamin David, considered chef of the multimedia realm. His site is organized, well collected, and features attractive navigation. Below we will try to cover a few points defining the way this site works.

Attractive Navigation & Brand

Nyxen.net brings easy navigation to the table with a hint of attractiveness. This allows for its users to horizontally scroll through the entire site. Large easy-to-find buttons are a plus, and the fonts used are classy.

Another eye-catching feature is the navigation within the resume area. It’s as if it were another site within the main site. It adds creativity and uniqueness to the brand.

The actual logo is simple, yet definitive, and straight to the point. A logo that’s driven by cloudy purpose is meant to falter on its own. This logo isn’t the most creative, however it blends well with the overall design and purpose of the site.

Portfolio

The portfolio area is very organized displaying a simple structure. Each work is sectioned off and identified correctly. Upon mouse over the specified work lightens up and if selected you’re immediately taken to that project’s corresponding page. My first impression of the portfolio was that it was powered by lightbox, however to my surprise this wasn’t the case.

Nyxen.net is an overall well collected site that features the use of technology such as Ajax, JavaScript and more. From he way it interacts with its visitors to the User Interface design you can say that this site is clear, usable, and concise.
