Burger King Late Night

We all know that the best time to watch horror movies is late at night when it’s dark, quiet and relates well to the movie. This ad is on point as Burger King relates to late night by bringing the demonic characters from popular horror movies into the real world. And what are they doing? Ordering Burger King.

Creative Director Vincent Raffray and his team at Tonic were asked to communicate that Burger King stays open until the wee hours of the morning. Thomas and Kris came up with the following campaign showing the villains of the night that we know all too well, enjoying their favourite meal after a night out. The ads were shot in South Africa and Dubai by French photographer Ben Dauchez and retouched by Thomas himself. A job well done! The series comprises four ads which will run in press and outdoor.

Burger King: Chucky

Burger King: Chucky

Love this one! I do have one comment – shouldn’t Chucky be holding a drink or a fry or something? Think about someone who lives under a rock and has no idea what this company is about. It’s almost a toy ad or even one for a new movie with Chucky. The product should always be a dominant part of the scene but in this one I feel it’s missing. I actually had to look for their product.

Burger King: Scream

Burger King: Scream

Not the scariest character but probably one of the most iconic in recent times. This setup is missing his weapon of choice – I’m not sure what it’s called. The hand sort of killed it for me in terms of realism but that’s not the point. As long you get that they open late.

Burger King: Freddy

Burger King: Freddy

Burger King: Jason

Burger King: Jason

Personally, I love the one with Jason the best. That’s just epic funny. It would have been a little more real and raw with some blood on her but this is food, not exactly what you want to see in the picture. So I’d say that was an intentional call and a good one at that.  I think for the Jason scene, they could have added his cutlass on the dashboard. That would have been cool.

So what’s your thought? Digging the scary scenes?

  • Chuckie needs to be holding the happy meal box to show some relation to it. That box looks like it's just part of the background of a messy car.

Scream could use a bit more distress in his pose to suit the look on his mask.

I actually like Freddy's the most 'cos it emphasizes the knives on his hands. Maybe if it was zoomed in a bit more on that to get less attention on how he's riding a jeep.

Jason just looks like a pimp on that car 'cos it lacks signs of violence. Yeah, doesn't need to be blood, can be the scratches, machete and cracks.
  • Adz
    ghostface uses a hunting knife.
  • Patrick
They also needed to show the hands because the black gloves on black robe wouldn't provide enough contrast, this helps to recognize he was wiping mustard right away.

Also...really...Freddy is in a jeep and Jason a mini?
    Freddy = child raping van
Jason = more of the 70's van he stole from some hippies, after bludgeoning them to death.

While I understand not wanting to show blood in the campaign, atleast a cracked windshield and scrapped up hood for Jason V.
