Snickers

Almost a year after being produced and these ads are still cool. Snickers is one of my favourite chocolate bars because it truly lives up to its messaging for me. It doesn’t full me up as a complete meal would but it certainly kills my hunger and re-fuels me.

This ad campaign tells you just that in the most entertaining and cool-factor possible way. I personally love ads that are high energy, fast and has equally matching music. The most beautiful thing is the mixture of 3D environment and real world. In ‘the making of’ films you see how some areas are edited and enhanced and how real scenes are shot for certain effects.

It’s interesting how these days some commercials are so big an entire little film is made showing that. In this post, if you like them, you get to observe how they’re made – so enjoy that bit.

Ilya Abulhanov, director of Prologue gives us here an amazing set of trailers for MTV Movie Awards 2009. We just walk around the New York City, and have a good slap here. The composition is simply amazing, and the condensed sans-serif type is quite simply well employed!
I particularly enjoy the ‘wip’ concept, with the time of the shot view.

We got a great feeling here, and Lukas Boysen aka ‘HECQ’ made an amazing piece of work as usual to create a nice sensation and ambiance ! We have a very nice mix of tension and wonder, with some suspense layer and sharp detail in this sound design !

I just discovered this cute spot for Innocent Orange Juice.

Aardman is a major, world class studio. Their work continues to be innovative, entertaining, brilliantly characterized and full of charm, reflecting the talent, energy and personal commitment of all the people who comprise the Aardman team. They give us here, a very original concept, with a great realization!

I simply love the details they put in this animation, and how they give to this orange so much personality. We can feel how it’s hard to walk, and that it’s a big effort to it. The sound is pretty nice, and supports all the ambiance they made! I think that all works together. I have only one regret – it’s a little too short, but it’s a spot so it has to be small!

With my background in Graphic Design, advertising and 3D I can appreciate the total work process behind this extravagant experience. It’s often easy to forget the work behind a total concept when viewing as a guest, but I suggest taking some time to consider the ideas and creativity that are behind it all. Don’t just dismiss the total package as just a shell made for selling apparel.

The Main Page

A brand new Chicago based company has launched their website. The Material Group now is up and also looking for fresh talent to join them. Their website is exceptional. It shows great compositional skills and merges the use of texture, typography and 3D elements nicely to great a creative atmosphere.

The navigation is easy to use and consistent. What’s important to note is they gave 2 methods of navigating: via the  normal navigation or via the illustrations. They don’t have a home button but their logo links back to their main page. That’s fine for savvy web users.

My favourite scene is the client page where they used actual client products and for some the client’s logo act as graffiti on a texture wall. This page once again shows exceptional compositional skills which I see stemming from their background in motion graphics.
