I posted this over at DesignersCouch as an inspirational bit but I just have to talk about it further here. It’s really a strong comeback by Ray-Ban because I haven’t seen them around for years. These ads get them the attention they’re looking for.

I like the warmth the ad is conveying and to some degree I think it’s too warm but in a good way. On some level it makes me see this is what the sun is doing to our skin because it has this radioactive effect. Though it looks cool I think the message is that the sun is damaging our skin but not our eyes because they’re protected by Ray-Ban. It’s just one of those subliminal messages we interpret without realizing. Do you interpret the same thing?

The TV spot is wonderful but I feel at the end more colours in the shades should be shown because the three colours they used is not definitive of ‘colourize’ to me. That of course doesn’t take away much from execution and concept. It’s still great.

The most impressive thing about this campaign is that it’s visually aggressive. Ray-Ban has been out of the spotlight for years, at least for me. Now they’re trying to get attention back to their products and what better way to go. These ads use extremely vibrant colours with insanely high contrast. Is it possible you can pass on the subway or in the street without noticing? I think not. Exceptional campaign overall.
