Hunky Dorys Sexual Exploits

A lot of controversy around Hunky Dorys’, a chip manufacturer recent ad campaigns featuring hot models playing rugby with suggestive copy such as ‘Tackle these’. Additionally there’s an interactive website created for the campaign with locker room where you get to download wallpapers of the girls.

While I agree it’s tacky, I’ve seen worse cases. Come on, we’ve seen CK ads with some hot girl just posing selling perfume. At least in this instance they get creative and funny with the copy and I really appreciate when copy gets smart and is perfectly integrated into ad campaigns. What’s your take on the following?

  • Nice girls :)
  • As a female that grew up watching Japanese anime and is now diving into the world of game design I have to say that these ads do not phase me in the least. I don't really think they are any worse than half-naked models wearing blue jeans, and those are quite common in adverts. I actually appreciate a bit of "risque" humor and I applaud this crisps company for thinking out of the box- er, bag.

As a designer, I totally agree....well designed use of typography, clever and effective.

As a male, the images are very well executed and drives me to want to go SEE Irish rugby live or eat some chips...........preferably see it live :)

    Great post.
