The website of Tim Van Damme, a 24 year old interface designer based and raised in Belgium, designs interfaces as a freelancer at Made by Elephant, sparked a major trend and inspired hundreds of websites. It’s a v-card type website but I prefer the term ‘Online Identity Kit‘ used by Jan Van Lysebettens where I got wind of Tim’s website. These mini-sites consist of a link to all your social profiles, short information and easy contact.
Tim’s design is possibly simplicity at its best and in this design, every detail matters like the icons used to me are the make or break aspect in the design. Twitter skyrocketed because the interface is simple, the iPod dominated the market for the same reason and Tim’s portfolio created a trend because of it’s simple characteristics. This is testimony that less really is more.
If you’re looking for more inspiration on this trend as you may now be considering yours, then see below or check out more at Tim’s Hall of Fame; before you venture into your own online identity kit, be sure to contact Tim and get his permission otherwise you’ll end up in his Hall of Shame.
UPDATE:
You do not need to contact Tim to create your own OIK unless you want to be on his hall of fame. Sorry for the mix up. Thanks.
