Logitech’s Fresh Face

Clean. The word strikes up many different thoughts (and maybe even emotions). Clean could remind you of the time you dropped your pizza on the floor, and thought, “Maybe this is still salvageable”. Maybe it was the time when you had a shower and you thought, “Yeah, this is probably an asset to my social well-being”. But in this case, Logitech has proven clean can mean much more; clean can mean form and function.

Like many of us (and by us, I mean designers, computer users and general geeks of all trades), you’ve likely come across a Logitech peripheral. It’s highly unlikely you’ve avoided one so far, and if you have, well, you probably deserve some kind of badge or sticker. Logitech makes some of the most advanced, ergonomic and functional computer peripherals you can find on the market today, and they’ve finally taken their own web image and made it into something just as inspiring.

The first thing you’ll notice is how sparse the navigation is. Products and Support are the only two things to stare you down when you first arrive on their site. This is a great asset, as it allows the user to immediately recognize and gravitate towards their choice, and when there are fewer choices, the faster this action becomes.

Product selection is also a step in the right direction. Everything is in a dynamically sorted list to appease detail-oriented people, and to cut to the products you want to see quickly, as opposed to requiring you to scroll through every related item. This can be highly valuable for a company that wants their products highly visible and quickly found; the difference between a potential buyer and someone leaving their site due to boredom or frustration is quite slim.

Individual product pages are fresh and clean, giving you a direct look at important features and the product itself. This is especially important as you want your focus to be the product, not the design. Focal strength of each product is efficient and strong, allowing you to soak in important details about the merchandise you’re interested in, as opposed to your eyes being subconsciously diverted to the colour of a background or gradient.

Logitech has once again proven that great design is a virtue of the technology industry, and its new look online is definitely portraying a feeling that they’ve spent as much time designing their image as they have their products. If you’re looking for a design that’s straightforward and forward thinking, Logitech has nailed it. Give it a look, you might be pleasantly surprised. Oh, and pick up a mouse while you’re there, I hear they’re good at making those too.
