This is Nosotros, a creative design studio from Paraguay headed by Juanma Teixido as Creative Director. Upon coming across their site it strikes me as nothing short of beautiful. Let’s see if I can touch on some points as to why I think it’s beautiful.
Identity & Navigation
First and foremost I love the colourful logo and how it contrasts nicely against the entire site. Upon loading the site it’s the first thing you’re drawn to and I spent a while taking it in. It also helps that the logo is consistently surrounded by whitespace.
As all navigation should be it is simple, clean and easy to use but a little more beyond that I admire the details. Firstly they appear like buttons and on mouse-over a great click feel. Web design to me has a lot to do with feelings, emotions and connection so this is why I like the buttons. They connect with something familiar and as such it clearly communicates that you can or should click. More importantly it inspires you to click.
Slideshow
A great big area for the slide show that gives potential clients more than a sneak peak of previous work. What I would add is a link on each slide to a page with more details on that particular project. If a client sees a design he/she likes there is no direct way to learn more about that design.
Below the slide show is attention to details by this team. They could have just done circles but the buttons are incredibly detailed and again connecting to something familiar. For me it’s reminiscent of the knobs on those old time radios. This perception of mine lead me to click them instantly just because I wanted to connect.
Branding
I really like the information design here. Again, instead of presenting otherwise mundane information in text, a great illustration is done to communicate this. The colour used tied in with the logo design – which demonstrates consistency in colour usage – can help build your brand identity. It’s much more than logo design – it’s consistency.
The only questionable choice to me in this illustration is the white on grey. It’s really hard to read for me and I don’t think that was intentional otherwise it’s defeating the purpose. I understand white looks clean and a darker colour loses that feeling but legibility comes before visual elegance to me.
Here’s another illustration using colours in the logo. Consistency in colours plays an important role in establishing that brand identity. This information design is also quite nice because it effectively shows distribution of work among the various areas, so you immediately get a sense of what they do most – branding and web design.
Blog
The blog design was surprising to me. I expected to see the same consistent design but then I got something different. This inconsistency is still in keeping with the general design and in fact strengthens their brand identity because it emphasizes the logo colours. It’s also nice to shake things up a bit. I think the blog is unique and different because the categories are visual where they are divided by text, photos, video, audio, tweets and quotes. My personal favourite is the quotes. Nice touch!
I don’t particularly like the inconsistency in layout when you scroll down. What I noticed is that larger images go over into the left column where titles are. This inconsistency in the blog manifests a certain degree of disorganization. I personally feel that all the images being consistent in size would be neater and more organized.
Overall Nosotros is a splendid design and showcases exceptional skills in design, exemplifying consistent usage of elements to establish a sturdy brand identity.
