Perfect Balance in We Make

We Make

We make is the portfolio of Norwegian web designer duo Emil Bonsaksen and Christer Austad. Their website is an example of elegance and great use of contrast. There is also a lot of white space going around to create that elegant atmosphere on the site. It’s really important to note their use of it because sometimes a designer can go overboard and what should be white space becomes wasted space.

I’m especially fond of the use of the Mac. I’ve seen this done many times but mostly as decoration so I enjoy how the ‘featured’ work is presented in this space. It would be interesting to know why the 4 circles that act as navigation didn’t go on the black border of the computer. My guess is that they wanted to preserve the integrity of the Mac which tells me they are die-hard fans of Apple products :) .

I think they have enough space going around to increase the leading of the type but the content is easy to read as is. I also would like to point out font-colour. Instead of being pure white which I often see many doing, the colour is an off white (grey) on black. The reason is that pure white text creates a strong contrast on black making it hard on the eyes when reading. You can see this in the titles where they used pure white.

Overall a stunning design that uses the elements and principles of design well, keeps it simple to focus on content.

  • Hi Damian and DC.
Thank you for a great review of our website, we really appretiate it!
We have a realigned and slightly redesigned version ready in matter of weeks. The 'new' site will use norwegian and english language so you'll be able to understand what it says ;-)

I never heard of DC before, but I do love both the design and the quality and depth of the articles. Kudos and good luck from Norway!

    Consider yourself fav'ed!

    Kind regards,
    Emil / We Make
  • Love it!
