Before I get into this, here’s the story

Your flight has an impact. Plane Stupid’s new cinema ad, written and commissioned by creative agency Mother and made by production company Rattling Stick. Director Daniel Kleinman. www.planestupid.com

“We wanted to confront people with the impact that short-haul flights have on the climate. We used Polar Bears because they’re a well understood symbol of the effect that climate change is having on the natural world.”

My Take

I love this ad because of the story it tells. I’m a huge fan of polar bears because I think they’re plain awesome. Studies showed that this year there has been an increase in cannibalism among polar bears. They are eating their young just to survive because they are losing hunting grounds.

I think this ad takes a shock and awe approach because the thought of this actually happening is insane. The ad doesn’t spare the user any of the details because as their bodies hit the surface you can see the blood spilling, sound is used well to deliver how the weight hits the ground. All this contributes to creating a realistic atmosphere. This is no joke.

Now when you think about it, an entire species is going to be pushed to the brink of extinction because some people can’t find more environmentally-friendly means to reach their location. I hope this ad puts it in their mind what exactly they’re contributing to. It really is plain stupid that one species has to suffer because humans cannot bear to inconvenience themselves. Let’s do what we can and remember we’re not the only ones on this planet. What’s your take?
