I came across the work of Punkat via Graphic Exchange and am just stunned and amazed by his typographic work. Let me introduce Punkat:

Under the pseudonym of Studio Punkat, Hugo Roussel, independent graphic designer, answers the problems of communication of institutional or deprived structures, in the fields of the visual identity, printed edition and of the descriptive one.

I love the elegance in his works, the minimalistic approach and the subtle use of colours when used. I have to say ‘when used’ because his designs have an almost monochromatic scheme. It’s amazing that with such simplicity the work is still bold and expressive through creative typographic treatments.

In the design “One Charming Night” the slanted type on solid black shapes is quite attractive and the illustration compliments it nicely in the background. All these elements are brought together perfectly with the white space. In addition to that the uneven edges mixed with the negative space creates really great rhythm and flow in this design. Stunning piece!

I love to see type at an angle because I feel it brings such a dynamic vibe to the layout. Above, in the left image I admire with great interest the treatment of the layout. Instead of putting the type at an angle, it’s kept horizontal but the layout goes at an angle. This contrasts in layout makes the content pop out to me – my eyes keep going back and forth. It’s really just an interesting layout that’s engaging and interactive.

The work by Punkat is undoubtedly envious for the creativeness, elegance and professionalism that can be found in them. I’ll wrap this up with some more of his work.
