The Website of Majo Fruithof

I just stumbled upon the website of Majo Fruithof which showcases her jewelry design collection. This website is stunning because it uses simplicity to create an elegant design, allowing content to pop out more than anything else. What’s really unique about this elegant site is the use of photography which sets a very dramatic stage and communicates that sense of high fashion. I’m stilling going back and forth as to whether these are real models or mannequins. If they are real models then they’re damn good and much props to the photographer.

What doesn’t work in this design is the fact that sound auto plays. I understand that sound is necessary to create that dramatic setting but let’s be real, we all hate it for many reasons. On top of that there’s no option to turn the sound off. In some cases the navigation also clashes with the photo but at that point you’re familiar with where it is so it’s not that big of a deal.

What you can take away from this design is that sometimes you just need to choose the 1 element, the right element to make your website stand out. In Majo Fruithof’s case it’s the stunning photography.

  • Hello. I think the article is really interesting. I am even interested in reading more. How soon will you update your blog?
  • Thanks for posting about this, I would like to read more about this topic.
  • I really join Damian's opinion about the photo. It's just stunning ! and I'm amazed by those shoot, and post production if(there is.. ^^).

I got some other points about the flash ^^
I agree for sound, it's too bad that we can't turn it off. I'd like too, when i'm navigating in the picture, to switch to the next or previous picture, but I haven't found any way to do this.. If u wanna go to the last picture, for example, you have to use the overview system, it could be nice, to have a lil more control, in diaporama mode.
The book is very cool, it works well, and it's smooth. It fit perfectly with the website's feeling !

Finally it could be interesting to have something like swfAddress on a website like that, to go to a specific picture, or just share a pic with some peoples. But that's just a detail : )
